Understanding Security Profiles

A Security Profile describes the modernLINK® services you can access. A modernLINK Profile Administrator is responsible for adding users to modernLINK and, if authorized, setting up Sub-Producing Organizations and Licensed Producers. The Profile Administrator can be someone appointed in your agency or an American Modern administrator. Security Profiles are maintained in the Agency Management System.

Product authority for Processors (users) is inherited from the organization to which they belong, either a Contract Holder or Sub-Producing Organization.

Profiles

When a modernLINK Profile Administrator assigns you a Username for access to modernLINK, the profile you are assigned, along with your product authority,  determines the actions you can take in modernLINK.

The available profiles are:

Profile Administrator

A Processor that has the authority to add/edit new Processors and, if authorized, Sub-Producing Organizations and Licensed Producers.

Profile Administrator Submit to Home Office

A Processor that has the authority to add/edit new Processors and, if authorized, Sub-Producing Organizations and Licensed Producers. All quotes submitted by the Processor and any Processors he sets up, are to be reviewed by an underwriting authority  prior to approval or declination.

User

The user is a Processor that has rating and quoting capability based upon their parent's Product Authorization. Users can edit their own personal Client Information .

User Submit to Home Office

The user is a Processor that has rating and quoting capability based upon the parent's Product Authorization. All quotes submitted by the Processor are to be reviewed by an underwriting authority  prior to approval or declination.

In addition to the preceding profiles, other quoting/issuing levels exist (e.g., "Full" and "Exception" authority levels), but these are typically reserved for American Modern employees and some processing agents.

Underwriting Authority Levels and Quote Statuses

Full Authority

Agents having Full authority can override the Do Not Bind notifications generated by modernLINK. Full authority agents have access to all pay plans and payment methods available under modernLINK.

Applications submitted by Full authority agents are initially placed on the server in Pending Issuance status. These applications are processed at 5 p.m. EST to be issued as policies. (See "Submit the Quote" to learn more about quote application statuses.)

Standard UW Authority

Applications submitted by Standard UW Authority agents are initially placed on the server under Pending Issuance status provided all binding criteria have been met. Applications submitted by Standard authority agents where any binding criteria is not acceptable, are placed on the server in Submitted to Home Office or Submitted to G.A.  (submitted to General Agent) status. Applications with these statuses are reviewed by an American Modern or General Agent underwriter to determine acceptability. (See "Submit the Quote" to learn more about quote application statuses.)

Submit to UW Authority

Agents with Submit to UW Authority can quote and submit through modernLINK for underwriting review. A policy is not issued until it has been reviewed by an underwriter. Any policies that fall into the Do Not Bind - Submit category should not be bound. Applications submitted by users with Submit to UW Authority are placed in Submitted to Home Office or Submitted to G.A. status. (See "Submit the Quote" to learn more about quote application statuses.)

Regardless of an agent’s authority, any quote which falls under the DO NOT BIND – DO NOT SUBMIT criteria cannot be placed on the server in a Submit to H.O. status or a Policy Pending status unless expressly overridden by American Modern corporate underwriting.
