MVR Summary

More About MVR Results

The MVR Summary page is used to verify MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) results for each rated operator on the quote and to compare MVR results to the information you have supplied for an operator in the current quote. The MVR ensures that operator driving records are taken into consideration for rating purposes.

The page shows two sets of information. One set, labeled Information Provided by Applicant, is based upon the information you entered as Accident/Violation Information in modernLINK. The other set, labeled Information Provided by Third-Party, is provided by the MVR service.

When you verify the MVR results, driving record information provided by the applicant is merged with information provided by the third party for underwriting consideration. In the event information is duplicated in the two sections, you exclude the information supplied by the applicant.

Information provided by applicant

This section shows the driving record information provided by the applicant. The example below shows the information provided for Operator 2. If duplicate losses are shown in this section and the MVR Information provided by third-party section, select the Exclude from Rating check box in this section. Otherwise, the duplicate information from both sections is included as part of the rating process.

Information provided by third-party

This section shows the driving record information provided by the third party MVR service. The example below shows two DUI violations for Operator 2. If a DUI occurs within the operator's Experience Period (three years previous to policy Effective Date), that operator is ineligible. The only acceptable way to quote this risk is for the operator with the DUI to be excluded (in states where exclusion is supported).

The Override check boxes are available only to underwriters who need to "force" an ineligible operator through the system so that a bound quote can be cancelled.

If Operator 1 is ineligible, you are notified the quote is an ineligible risk. If any other operator is ineligible based upon MVR results, the only acceptable way to quote the risk is for the operator to be excluded (in states where exclusion is supported) on the Operator Info page.

If an MVR is not successfully returned for an operator, the Unverified MVR surcharge is applied.

The premium may change based upon MVR results.

To exclude information reported by applicant (if duplicated in the MVR):

  1. Select the Exclude from rating? check box to the right of the entry in the Information provided by applicant section.

  2. Verify the MVR results.

To verify MVR results:

  1. Ensure that the MVR Results returned match the operator name on this application.

  2. Select the check box to the right of the I verify that the MVR results returned match the operator name on the application.

This check box must be selected for the MVR results to be merged with the information provided by the applicant. If you do not verify the MVR results, modernLINK will not allow you to continue entering the quote and an error message displays.

  1. Click Next.

The result is one of three possibilities:

If MVR results are acceptable, the Billing Information page opens. Driving Record surcharge may be applied.

If MVR results are not acceptable, the Do Not Submit message is displayed.

If MVR results cannot be returned for an operator, you are asked to re-enter the operator information if it is incorrect. Otherwise, if you proceed to the Billing Information page, the Unverified MVR surcharge is applied.

  1. Follow the steps to provide Billing Information.

More About MVR Results

MVR's contain an individual's state driving record for a period of time, usually three to seven years, depending on state laws. modernLINK® displays all MVR records but only the last three year's worth of information is applied to the risk.

MVR reporting is state-dependent with three types of processing:

The submitter's modernLINK security profile, the status of the quote when the results are returned and the state's MVR reporting process determines who verifies the MVR results and when eligibility and surcharges are determined.

Real-time State MVR Processing

The MVR Summary page opens automatically after the Client Information page when an MVR report is ordered and the results are returned immediately. The individual generating/submitting the quote verifies the MVR results. Operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined prior to submission of the quote.

Batch State MVR Processing

In states that support batch processing, non-submitted quotes that have been saved after the MVR request has been made (after the Client Information page) and for which MVR results are returned, display the MVR results on the MVR Summary page, just as in a state supporting real-time processing. The major consideration with such quotes is that, in order to be submitted, the individual submitting the quote must visit the MVR Summary page and verify the results as described in the steps above. An example would be someone saving a quote for a few days prior to submitting during which time the MVR results are returned. In this case, operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined prior to submission of the quote.

If the submitter has a Submit to Underwriting Authority modernLINK security profile and submits an eligible quote before the batch MVR results are returned, a quote number is obtained, the quote status becomes Submitted to GA or Submitted to Home Office and the underwriting authority reviews the MVR results. The major consideration with such quotes is that operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined after submission of the quote. For an ineligible operator, the policy is cancelled or in the case of multiple operators, excluded (in states where exclusion is supported) via the blue screens.

Non-display State MVR Processing

For non-display states, the MVR results are returned to American Modern underwriters, regardless of the submitter's modernLINK security profile. If the quote has been successfully submitted and a policy number issued, the policy is cancelled or in the case of multiple operators, excluded (in states where exclusion is supported) via the blue screens if MVR results indicate an ineligible operator. It is again possible that an operator's driving record results in a surcharge.

For quotes in Submitted to GA status that are awaiting review, the MVR results are not made available to American Modern underwriters until the quote is submitted. Therefore, operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined after submission of the quote.

For quote in Submitted to Home Office Status, if MVR results are returned prior to a Home Office underwriter approving the quote, operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined prior to submission of the quote. If MVR results are returned after a Home Office underwriter approves the quote, operator eligibility and possible surcharges are determined after submission of the quote.
